If you feel like a dried up piece of day old bread at the end of a work day, you might think you are alone - but you are not. Up to 61% of mental health professionals are reporting symptoms of burnout. Teachers and other helping professionals aren't far behind.

Once you are in full blown “burnout” it is difficult to get out. Secondary symptoms like sleep issues, loss of physical fitness and depression compound one another. Not having healthy boundaries is the hidden cause of these symptoms for so many therapists I've worked with. 

Burnout prevention is essential. But where do you start? "Self-care" can become just another unreachable item on an already gargantuan to-do list, something that you have to work even harder to earn the money to afford.

I have good news for you! Self care isn't as hard as we make it. I would love to show you how shockingly easy it can be.

I’ve seen in my practice over 20+ years that everyone has easy access to the feeling of their body, they've just forgotten how to tune in. In my workshops we do this one nerve at a time, with simple and easy to learn practices for each one.
In this workshop you will:
  • reset your nervous system
  • learn to feel when your boundaries have been crossed
  • discover how to express boundaries physically and verbally
  • develop embodiment skills to preserve boundaries under stress
  • fortify the boundary between your work and your personal life
  • energize your interpersonal interactions
  • stop overwhelming clients and students by giving less
so you don’t end up going off the deep end! You can also share what you're learning with your clients or students right away because the practices are simple, safe, and easy to remember.
I'm passionate about redefining what self care means. These myths about self-care get in the way of you getting the help you need.

- Self-care is all on you: Self-care doesn't happen alone in your room. It's something we practice while with other people! In fact, isolation  is a major cause of burnout among healing professionals. The challenges we are all facing are collective and can’t be solved alone. This workshop will include group explorations and working in pairs to assure that you can access the feeling of your body while in conversation with others.

- Self-care happens outside of work: Pedicures, going to the gym, and taking long walks are all healthy, wonderful things. Unfortunately, if you don’t have basic self-attention & embodiment skills in place, these activities won’t address the root cause of energy drain: body dissociation and weak boundaries while you are working.

- Self-care is hard work: Complex, expensive training programs in embodiment and trauma can increase burnout by raising your already high professional standards beyond human reach, empty your bank account, and exhaust you further.

You already know enough as a professional; let's support all that knowing with sensory awareness and a feeling of fluidity in your body.
I teach more fundamental, easier ways of accessing the wisdom of our bodies that we can use while we are working, even online.

The miracle of a passing, easy breath, the sensation of your skin, or the silky feeling of your tongue in your mouth are all pleasurable and easy to notice, will slow you down, and make space for non-cognitive empathy and intelligence.

There must be a way to work differently all day, more easily, with more receptivity and less need to change or fix your clients; a way that leaves you feeling energized and satisfied at the end of the day just because you were present.

With high demand for your services and shorter session times, it can be hard to take precious minutes to include your own body awareness in the work. Yet the only sustainable solution to burnout lies in gentle, ongoing self-attention so that you don't over-ride your intuition and allow your boundaries to be crossed.

It’s hard to believe how powerful this simple practice of including yourself in the sensory picture can be. The mind doesn’t want to believe it, but your body will tell you it's true.

Ignoring your own fatigue and tension are coping mechanisms you'll need to let go of. This workshop will show you how, step by step, nerve by nerve.

For many people, these solutions are not working:
- Compassion Fatigue certification courses

are often superficial, done in isolation online, and don’t teach you how to build an ongoing self-attention practice or assure that you can use it while working.

- Yearlong trainings in embodiment or trauma

with complex cognitive frameworks can make you a better therapist, but leave you still over-focused on your clients and unable to attend to yourself.

Here's what I know will work, and why:

- Specific anatomical and functional information about your body, presented in an easy-to-remember combination of visual charts and practical exercises. This workshop will cover up to 4 of the 12 cranial nerves, which are fundamental building blocks of sensory awareness.

- Step-by-step practices for each nerve that you can do on your own and share with your clients.

- Practices that work on Zoom or live in your office and are easy to adapt for different individuals.

- Time to test out your self-attention skills in relationship with a partner.

Your body is a trustworthy compass that will provide endless motivation for more self-care actions like eating healthy, exercising more, and having more fun.

COURSE DETAILS: We'll learn how to tune into cranial nerves 5 - 8 which control sensation from and motor control of your face; mouth opening and closing; freedom of the eyes and head to turn side to side; sound production and perception, and balance. We'll use this deepened awareness to explore our ability to choose receptivity or activation, expression or quietness, beginning or ending conversation while in the company of others.

Total 6 classroom hours of education and practical application work and one private session with Clare.
