for Holistic Practitioners
Collaborative jam sessions can unlock clarity, creativity, and courage for somatic practitioners and therapists committed to building a purposeful, profitable business.
The challenge of building a successful business as a somatic practitioner, psychotherapist, or healer isn’t simply about technical skills or formal credentials. It’s about authentically weaving your personal mission into the very fabric of your practice. That can feel weirdly overwhelming and isolating to define.
I’ve gone through this weird overwhelm myself. And, I see so many business owners struggle with or simply avoid the big questions. Sometimes it’s because they simply don’t know how important they are. Sometimes it’s because they are more focused on details and can’t see the whole picture.
Part of the reason for this “not knowing” is because issues like mission and core values are really community issues.
The patriarchal picture we have all bought is that you need to figure it out on your own. We’ve been trying to use a tool of patriarchy – individual brilliance in isolation – to break out of a patriarchal system!
Perfectionism won’t earn you money. Clarity of intention will. Clarity of intention is much easier to excavate in community!
In my Mastermind Groups, we’ve collectively created “business development jams” that result in participants naturally being able to articulate their vision and turn it into an actionable, sustainable business.
Creativity Through Community
Small, collaborative jam sessions are more effective than big workshops, in my experience. When practitioners gather in a supportive, improvisational space, the hard questions like defining your mission or identifying your ideal client suddenly become less daunting.
While traditional business development classes can help you start thinking about these questions, the real breakthroughs often happen in community. Jamming together has a natural energy of openness, humor, and honesty. In my groups, we spend the first 10 minutes in collective somatic practice. This helps us drop masks of fear and performative self-protection to get at what’s real, what’s powerful.
Instead of struggling alone at home, participants riff off each other’s ideas, tell the truth, rant and rave, and break past creative blocks. Then we can arrive at much clearer, more authentic answers.
Committing to a regular group is just not possible for some folks. That’s why I’m hosting three Business Development Jam Sessions this fall.
Jam Session 1: Visioning Your Mission-Driven Business
The first jam is all about visioning. For practitioners, this means deeply considering what legacy they want to leave—what impact, visibility, and community change they hope to create.
There’ is a palpable cultural shift away from perfectionist ideals of“wellness” and self-blame. The cultural flow is towards recognizing the real communal and systemic challenges we all face. A mission-driven business resonates more in this environment and is better positioned for success.

Jam Session 2: Getting Real: Financial Health and The Cost of Thriving
Money matters inspire trepidation for us because we know how inhumane our current economy is. We feel for our clients who struggle to navigate it. Confronting our personal “cost of thriving” is actually an empowering act in this situation. If we refuse to deprive ourselves, that’s the beginning of an abundant world for all.
If we can thrive financially, we can pass on a healthier profession to the next generation.
Yet because our current system is so insane, basic practices like setting abundant fees and separating business and personal finances bring up all kinds of resistance: nausea, doomscrolling, giving up on clarity and “hoping for the best.”
We lack faith in our creativity to solve this problem, and in business itself. We think business is evil, when in reality it can be a beautiful way of expressing interdependence and commitment to each other.
We gain the courage to reach for healthy financial goals through the process of admitting what we really want and need to each other in a jam session. A dreaded solo chore becomes a courageous collective journey.

Jam Session 3: Creating Offers That Truly Align and Sell
Many practitioners have experienced pouring their heart into a program or offer, only to hear crickets. The missing link? Iterative development rooted firmly in real community feedback.
In the jam setting, we learn to test and refine our offers with the people and communities they already serve, minimizing risk and maximizing the chances for genuine, sustainable growth. The focus is on ongoing improvement—launching, learning, and refining in a supportive environment rather than going it alone and hoping for the best.

Business Building as Embodied, Collective Practice
I hope these jams represent a new way forward for folx who are feeling the call to be courageous, scared that their businesses won’t support them, but don’t have thousands of dollars to spend. By participating in these collaborative sessions, you can find the clarity to name your mission, reframe your finances, and create offers that resonate.
Most importantly, you’ll realize you’re not alone: your business can—and should—be a community effort.
