How to love the business development tasks you hate the most
There’s a secret no one tells you about being a solopreneur: you will spend up to 40% of your time on administrative tasks, and half of that is marketing. If you struggle with procrastination, you’ll already know how ridiculous the idea of a hack is.
There is no kind of person on the planet who hates admin tasks more than somapreneurs!!
Or, maybe there are – let me know!
You are already halfway out of procrastination – if you know how to love yourself by attending to your body sensations with kindness.
What if you loved yourself so much that you love your business too; and your business loved you back? What if those admin tasks were tasks of love and care?
Maybe it’s just about remembering the why behind what you are doing. Do you need to reconsider? Is procrastination telling you the task is not in line with your deepest desires? Maybe, but if it is, read on.
I do find that procrastination melts away if I break down my workday into 25 minute increments, with a 5 minute break. I’m getting so much more realistic about what I can accomplish in a day. It’s a practical and somatic combo double punch!
It wasn’t really procrastination; it was unstructured time distorting my expectations of myself.
I know. We are not tech mavens, and we are highly trained to feel really good in our bodies. Sitting at your computer doesn’t feel good! So, figure out a way to bring your body into absolutely every business task you do.
Yup. Everything. It will slow you down, but it will also unstick you from avoidance and procrastination altogether.
The learning curve around tech can be pretty steep for somapreneurs. I ought to know – I recently faced my fear of Claude and dived in. (FYI, I am avoiding ChatGPT because of their friendship with warmongers and Trump. I was very pleasantly surprised, which of course scares me a bit!
As a business coach, just by my presence I know I can be a source of pressure for my clients.
In fact, that’s part of why people pay me. To help them just show up! I’m automatically perceived as someone who says, “work harder,” or even “work smarter.” And I do say those things, but underneath them is a deeper somatic understanding.
The message comes from love. It comes from a body that is sensory appreciating itself, before I even speak. How I speak is grounded in how I am feeling right now, in this moment.
Claude doesn’t do that. It just answers your questions. The better the question, the better the answer. But what if you are asking the wrong questions? A business coach might come in handy every now and then.
The things I might procrastinate around are usually something that will really help me move forward.
Often, it’s not the task itself, but the timing of it that causes me problems. If I hate it, I try to squeeze it in my schedule. Thusly, I never get it done.
I made this little video for you all about how “sensory appreciating” myself is helping me literally love myself more, serve my biz coaching clients better, and actually enjoy those tasks I used to hate.
Here are some gentle inquiries I offer all my clients:
- Is there one part of your business you could celebrate more?
- Is there one part of your business that you could delegate?
- Is there one thing that needs to transform to better support and please you?
What would it feel like to treat administrative work as a celebration—a way to make your business more joyful, kind to its owner (you!), and truly your own ?
There’s more in the video – I hope you’ll watch!
