What makes somapreneurs different

How are sompareneurs different from other holistic practitioners, and why does it matter for your business?

I’m the only person you will find if you google the word “somapreneur”. That’s because I care more than anyone else about you! You probably know who you are.

Your business development needs may not have been met by trying to fit into the alternative wellness industry. Now, it’s been co-opted in many ways by MAHA and steered way off course by racist, authoritarian demagogues.

If you try to fit into that category now, the true benefits and impact of your work may get lost in the public sphere, which does not favor nuance.

Somapreneurs are not trying to help people live forever, achieve perfect health, or rule over the universe through acquiring status and wealth.

Instead, you are trying to help people live more meaningful, connected, sensual lives. You are fighting for liberation, not “wellness superiority.” You are stepping away from a collective descent into MAHA madness, where steak and snake oil replace well established medicine and science.

By not denying death, you celebrate the fleeting beauty of a life well lived on a beautiful, fragile planet. By resisting tyranny, abuse, and trauma, you try to counter the death spiral of nihilism without losing your joy, your wellbeing, and your marbles.

Much of what you do exists on the leading edge of proven science and medicine. You have dedicated your life to practice and healing, not research and proof.

While scientists argue about Polyvagal Theory, reducing nuanced questions into a black and white, right or wrong scenario, you are preserving and honing therapeutic techniques and practices that precede any theory that can explain their effects.

It’s not that you don’t care about science, it’s that you care about your clients more.

While your business may intersect with the health care system in your country, the relationship is tenuous.

Over the years, through working with different business coaches and mentors, I’ve come to accept  the unique challenges somapreneurs face.

  • Establishing trust and social proof when your work is on the leading edge of science and not yet studied enough to provide unequivocal proof of efficacy
  • Reaching people who are not economically privileged…when you aren’t either
  • Having the equivalent of a Masters Degree in training without cache one provides; and not having the funds to get another one
  • Getting beyond the 1:1 business model
  • Choosing a niche that feels right when you really do love everyone
  • Weathering economic storms when you are self-employed
If you’re someone who’s truly great at what you do, but you’re not getting the income or respect you need to keep going, it’s probably time to:
  • expand your core audience, expanding outreach/marketing, and daring to network on a bigger stage

or

  • narrow your niche to be more specific and targeted

or

  • take the risk to change your niche altogether

But how do you know which? Successful somapreneurs are asking the bigger questions:

What is the bigger picture beyond the individual success of just one client?

I never know, until I meet with a practitioner, just why they aren’t bringing in the income they need. One thing for sure is that folks who don’t have a clear niche are going to suffer for it. It’s like how the slightest error in placement of your skis will cut .05 seconds off your time when competing in the Olympics.

How do I know? Personal suffering, that’s how!

It’s been my biggest problem throughout my career. I’ve always known who my people are, but every business coach I’ve worked with (that’s 4 different people at this point!) has told me that I will never succeed if I stick with them. Who is that? You.

Somanauts and Somapreneurs. You are movers and shakers and experts in the living, breathing body. Dancers, ex-dancers, therapists who dance, movers who think…you are my people.

You know that you can’t fake a good niche.

Sometimes thinking about it too hard just doesn’t work. If you can relate to all of this, and you are ready to make a change, please consider this upcoming low cost OFFER CREATION WORKSHOP hosted by The Alexander Technique Teachers of Greater Philadelphia! It’s open to any kind of somapreneur.

You can find the essential steps of “offer creation” anywhere, but you won’t have as much fun or meet as many like minded people as you will hanging out with us!

Please note: There is an early bird discount that ends February 21 – so jump in now!

I’ve been watching the 2026 Olympics this year – to me the theme is winning is not the point! It’s how you move, the passion and joy with which you make your effort, that the audience comes to see. Even the most devastating failures are loved, cherished, and supported by the crowd. The market is on your side if you dare to participate!
