Let's move away from pathologizing ourselves for struggling with boundaries, and start to be more playful and curious about them. The attitude you approach a challenge with can have a huge impact on your success in facing it. Foundational embodiment skills are a powerfulI antidote to blame and shame.

It's so important to face this problem because it's much harder to get out of full blown burnout once you are in it. Preventing it in the first place is much more effective than blame, shame, and working hard at self-improvement.

Many of us focus on what seems like care - for our creative projects, our jobs, our relationships - that we forget about our selves and our own core needs. Returning to ourselves is going to be a lifelong process, so we might as well have fun doing it!

Unfortunately, "self-care" is packaged and sold in the wellness industry as something you must do to improve yourself, something that requires time and resources that you never seem to have. Meanwhile, the ultimate self-care resource is right here with you, right now.

Your body.

Everyone I've worked with in my 22 years of teaching has access to the sensation of their own body. They've just forgotten how to tune in, or they've never had the time and space they needed to learn in the first place.

In my workshops we do this one nerve at a time, with simple and easy to learn practices.

In this workshop you will:

  • reset your nervous system
  • learn to feel your body in an easy and pleasant way
  • know what it feels like when your boundaries have been crossed
  • discover how to express boundaries physically and verbally
  • energize your interpersonal interactions

so you don’t end up going off the deep end!

I'm passionate about redefining what self care means. These myths about self-care get in the way of you getting the help you need.

- Self-care is all on you: Self-care doesn't happen alone in your room. It's something we can practice while with other people! Having healthy boundaries in community makes communities healthier and less stressful.

- Self-care happens only at special times: Pedicures, going to the gym, and taking long walks are all healthy, wonderful things. Unfortunately, if you don’t have basic self-attention skills, special activities won’t address the root cause of energy drain: daily body dissociation and weak boundaries.

I teach simple, fundamental, embodiment practices rooted in the Alexander Technique and informed by 40 years of dance and somatic practice.

The miracle of a passing, easy breath, the sensation of your skin, the energizing rebound from gravity, or the silky feeling of your tongue in your mouth are just a few examples of resources that are present in each moment.

It’s hard to believe how powerful this simple practice of including yourself in the sensory picture can be. The mind doesn’t want to believe it, but your body will tell you it's true. The practice may bring other feelings to the surface, so you'll need to learn how to ask for the time you need to include, process, and respond to what you feel while in the company of others.

Please note: This is a pilot workshop where I'll be testing and developing new applications for Cranial Nerve Sequencing and the Alexander Technique.

Developing new material in community has become a core part of my practice that brings me special joy. Without this phase of development, the Alexander Technique would remain forever hidden away as an esoteric practice.
